A well-established and highly regarded law firm in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced Head of Private Client to lead and further develop its private client practice. This is a senior role offering real autonomy, influence and the opportunity to shape the future of a key department within the firm.

The position would suit an accomplished private client lawyer ready to step into departmental leadership, or an existing head of team looking for a new platform with strong regional presence and long-term stability.

The Role

You will have overall responsibility for the strategic direction, performance and growth of the Private Client department, combining leadership responsibilities with the delivery of complex and high-value client work.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading, mentoring and developing a team of private client fee earners
  • Setting and delivering departmental strategy and growth objectives
  • Managing key client relationships and acting as a trusted adviser
  • Advising on sophisticated private client and wealth matters
  • Overseeing workflow, quality standards and resourcing
  • Driving business development and strengthening the firm’s regional profile
  • Collaborating with firm leadership and other departments

Scope of Work

The team advises individuals, families and business owners across a broad range of private client matters, including:

  • Wills and estate planning
  • Probate and estate administration
  • Trust creation, management and restructuring
  • Tax and succession planning
  • Court of Protection and capacity matters
  • High-net-worth and complex estates

About You

  • Senior qualified solicitor or legal executive with substantial private client experience
  • Proven ability to handle complex and sensitive client matters
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or leading others
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills
  • Commercial and strategic approach to practice development
  • Ambition to shape and grow a private client offering in the region

Previous experience in a formal head-of-department role is beneficial but not essential.

What’s on Offer

  • Senior leadership role within a respected West Midlands firm
  • Opportunity to shape and develop a key practice area
  • Established and loyal client base
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Supportive, people-focused culture
  • Clear long-term career prospects
