Hi-Tech /Engineering Patent Attorney

Delighted to be yet again exclusively partnering our top-tier IP team client on their growth journey.

Owing to continued success and new client wins, they are looking for their next member of the Patent group. This is a great opportunity to join a well-established yet evolving patents practice, working with some genuinely exciting clients, from high-growth tech businesses to globally recognised brands.

A bit about the team
You’ll be joining a hugely successful IP group that covers everything from patents and trade marks through to designs and disputes and big-ticket patent litigation. The patents team itself is small but mighty and you’ll get plenty of responsibility and visibility, but with the backing of a much wider, highly regarded IP and tech practice. There’s a strong link between the patent attorneys and the disputes team, so if you’re interested in contentious work, you’ll get real exposure to it, think UK High Court cases, EPO oppositions, and UPC matters. The team is already involved in a number of complex, high-profile cases and that side of the practice is continuing to flourish.

What you’ll be doing
No two days will look the same, but you can expect to:

  • Draft and prosecute patents across the UK, Europe, and internationally
  • Get involved in complex EPO oppositions and appeals
  • Genuinely advise on patent strategy, infringement, validity, and FTO
  • Work closely with litigators on contentious matters
  • Build relationships with clients, including start-ups, scale-ups, and established global businesses
  • Play a part in growing the practice and winning new work

What they’re looking for

They’re keen to speak to UK and/or European qualified Patent Attorneys with up to around 3 years’ PQE, ideally with a background in physics, engineering, or a similar high-tech area.

You’ll likely have:

  • Solid experience in drafting and prosecution
  • Some exposure to EPO opposition work
  • Good commercial awareness and confidence working directly with clients
  • An interest in contentious work

Just as importantly, they’re looking for someone who’s proactive, keen to take on responsibility, and excited by the idea of helping to grow a successful practice.

Why it’s worth a look
This is a really nice balance of superb quality work, early responsibility and long-term opportunity. Because the team is still growing, you’ll have the chance to shape your role and progress quickly, rather than feeling like a small cog in a big machine.
