Legal Counsel

We are currently partnering with a well-known organisation in the North East, to appoint a Legal Counsel with a strong background in a Commercial legal discipline. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join a diverse legal team responsible for a broad range of operational and transactional legal work across the UK and European business, within the transport and infrastructure sectors.

The successful candidate will provide commercial legal advice, engaging with projects that include the full range of in-house legal work, and advising stakeholders across the business. The role is based in the North East, a straght forward commute from Newcastle, Durham, and Sunderland, with the flexibility of hybrid working.

This is a well-established team of lawyers, and the organisation values approachability, proactive problem-solving, and commercial nous. This position is ideal for a lawyer with prior commercial experience, keen to engage in varied legal challenges within a supportive environment, and eager to develop their expertise across multiple sectors.

  • Qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in Commercial Law.
  • Ideally, you will have at least 3 years' commercial legal experience (either pre or post qualification). 
  • Whilst not a prerequisite, exposure to procurement, construction and/or commercial litigation would also be of great interest to the business. 
  • Lawyers from a purely construction or Commercial Litigation background, keen to move in-house and build on their non-contentious commercial experience, will also be considered. 
  • Proven ability to provide clear, practical legal advice 
  • Strong commercial awareness with a proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working effectively within a team and liaising with diverse stakeholders
  • Flexible attitude towards working hours, with an appreciation for a work-life balance facilitated by flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with confidence
