Clinical Negligence Associate | Manchester | 1-3 PQE | Hybrid Working

A leading national law firm is seeking an Associate to join its highly regarded Healthcare Litigation team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-quality defendant clinical negligence matters within an award-winning practice.

The team specialises in defending clinical negligence claims on behalf of NHS Resolution, NHS Trusts and other healthcare defendants, including a significant primary care caseload alongside Trust work.

As a Clinical Negligence Associate, you will:

  • Manage a caseload of defendant clinical negligence files.
  • Draft reports and legal documentation.
  • Interview witnesses and draft witness statements.
  • Instruct experts and counsel.
  • Attend court for CMCs and application hearings.
  • Negotiate settlements.
  • Hold conferences with counsel.
  • Prepare for and attend trials and mediations.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Cover secondments with NHS Resolution.
  • Support colleagues on higher-value and complex claims.
  • Draft client-facing articles and updates.
  • Support free advice clinics at local hospital trusts.
  • Deliver client training and presentations.
  • Supervise junior colleagues and support team development.

What we are looking for:

  • A qualified Solicitor or CILEX, with ideally 1-3 years’ PQE.
  • Defendant clinical negligence experience at an NHS Resolution panel firm.
  • MDO experience desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to manage cases independently and work collaboratively.
  • Strong understanding of client needs, protocols and KPIs.
  • Excellent organisation, communication and attention to detail.
  • Evidence of meeting time recording and contribution targets.
