The Role
Sought is a dynamic In-house Patents Manager to join their expert team based in Cambridgeshire. This is an unmissable pivotal role supporting research and innovation projects, ensuring that technologies are protected by robust IP strategies and that new opportunities are identified and safeguarded.
If you have a scientific background and previous experience working in intellectual property, this is an excellent opportunity to utilise your knowledge in a commercially impactful environment.
Day-to-day overview
- Support research projects by providing expert IP advice and guidance.
- Analyse third-party patents to identify strategic risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with inventors and external counsel to ensure the timely filing of strong patent applications.
- Work with project leaders to develop IP strategies aligned with project development stages.
- Manage the patent portfolio and related internal processes.
- Oversee third-party service providers in patent administration and searching.
- Educate on patents and IP protection strategies.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost reductions in IP management.
Skills you need
- Educated to PhD level in Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, or
a degree with significant relevant research or IP experience within a professional Patent setting.
- Exposure to patent drafting, invalidation and infringement searches, and Freedom to Operate analysis.
- Familiarity with IP laws, patent databases, and relevant technical domains.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, able to explain complex IP matters clearly.
- Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Self-motivated, proactive team player.
